By Georges Sari
Co-production with the Greek Art Theater.
The city of Athens, during the German Occupation period. The sixteen-year-old Zoe tries to understand… Tries to understand why the war, why the deaths, why the Nazi occupation of the country, why the hunger and suffering. And gradually, she begins to react with her small powers to bring back the much-desired freedom to Greece…
«Tell me about your life. Tell me your story. When mothers exhaust the tales of others, they must tell their children their own story, the true story. I don’t want to forget. And when my children ask me one day, ‘Mother, were you ever a kid?’ I will laugh and answer, ‘I wasn’t a kid, I am still one,’ and I will open the books…» George Sari narrates the fairy tale of her life and encounters the theater she loves so much. Alongside her is Alki Zei, her eternal companion. They recount the story of the Italian invasion and the German occupation of Greece during the period 1942-1944. Like every true fairy tale, it is harsh, terrifying. Yet simultaneously sweet, radiant, optimistic. And when everything seems to end, the fairy tale can only start again from the beginning.
Have a good journey to the Greece of the past, of today, of tomorrow, with Zoe…
